My Smile Adventure

I had an underbite as a kid and got my braces at a hospital in China. (Oh, it was NOT because my teeth were so bad that I had to be treated in a hospital setting… you see… in China dentistry is considered a part of medicine, so people go to the hospital to get any dental work done.) Although I do not remember a lot about my orthodontic treatment, I remember the day I got my braces off and one of my friends complimented my smile and commented on how happy I looked. Now an orthodontist myself, I cannot wait to help my patients get the beautiful and confident smiles that they desire, and have fun together along the way!

EDUCATION

I attended the University of Washington for my Bachelor and Master of Science in bioengineering. I earned my Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from the University of Pittsburgh, and graduated valedictorian. My orthodontics residency training was at the University of Pennsylvania.

PERSONAL LIFE

As you might have already guessed, (and I do not think it was my last name that gave it away,) I was born and raised in China. I came to the U.S. for high school at the age of 15. I have lived in Connecticut, Georgia, Washington, Pennsylvania, and Oregon since I moved to the U.S., and the beautiful PNW is hands-down my favorite part of the country. I love paddle boarding in the summer, hiking in the fall, enjoying the cherry blossom in the spring, staying indoors for as much as possible in the winter, and hanging out with friends and family all year long.

I also love watching movies and TV shows. In fact, I used to work as a part-time movie critic for one of China’s most popular movie review channels. I was the company’s first-ever hire without any film-related background — I got the job purely because of my love for sharing good movies and TV shows with friends and family. This experience also confirmed my belief that if someone is enthusiastic about something and is willing to put in the hard work, they will have a good chance of succeeding!
